Pack Light to Save Time and Trouble on Flights

Pack Light to Save Time and Trouble on Flights

One of the best tips for air travelers is to pack light to save time and trouble on flights.

The maximum amount of baggage that I recommend carrying along on any trip is one carry one bag and one checked bag. This will make moving about from home to airport and in and out of hotels much easier.

With higher fuel costs many airlines are now strictly enforcing maximum weight restrictions. Being overweight should not be a problem if you are checking only one reasonably sized bag. If you are overweight you may be unpleasantly surprised at how much those extra pounds are going to cost you.

Be sure to pack in your checked bag any items or objects that will cause you trouble at the security checkpoints. These items now include liquids and gels of any sort. So if you have a large shaving cream, hair spray , bottles of after shave lotion or perfume, be sure to pack it away in your checked luggage. Otherwise you will probably have to toss it away at an airport security checkpoint.

There is another advantage in packing light other than saving on weight with the resulting ease of handling. You can save a little room in your luggage and then pick up a few additional pieces of clothing at your destination. In many parts of this troubled world it is smart to blend in and look like a native, or at least someone who resides in that country, rather than stick out as a rich looking foreigner decked out in designer clothing. Blending in with the locals can be a big plus in adding to your personal security.

Be sure to leave any expensive jewelry, including watches, at home as well. Of course, this may be difficult to do if you are traveling on business and need to make a strong impression. But if you are flying off to a holiday the desire to impress others should be left at home along with your expensive jewelry and clothing.

Once you get used to packing light and smart you will wonder what took you so long to place ease of movement and personal safety ahead of the need to impress others with your wardrobe and accessories. Pack light to save time and trouble on flights and on the ground at your destination.
