Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson knew that Virginia was a special place, a gem among the colonies. Our first and third presidents built estates here, and tourists flock to Mount Vernon, Montpelier and Monticello each year to explore the homes of these founding fathers. Virginia offers many other historic sites, as well as some great historic bed and breakfasts. Here are some great ideas to consider when planning your Virginia history tour.
After a day exploring Virginia’s historic sites, it seems only fitting to spend your nights at a historic Virginia inn. The Holladay House, located in the charming historic village of Orange, has rich past. During the civil war, soldiers clashed just outside the home on Main Street. The home has seen many owners, but is named for the Holladay family, who lived in the home for a century. Some of the antiques once belonged to the Holladay’s.
The guest rooms and suites at this Virginia bed and breakfast have been decorated individually. The Garden Room includes a private patio and double spa tub. The Ivy Suite has both a fireplace and double spa tub. Other rooms are equally lovely and all include amenities such as DVD players (the innkeepers have a movie library) and wireless internet. The innkeepers serve a gourmet breakfast, as well as offering homemade goodies, coffee and tea during the day.
