Whether you are planning to visit the Big Island, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lahai or Maui your vacation in Hawaii will be filled with enjoyment. There are sites to see on each of the islands that make up the state of Hawaii.

When you visit the island of Kauai you will have the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, better known as Waimea Canyon. Here you will see panoramic views of the more than 3000 feet deep canyon. You will see crested buttes, ragged crags, and deep valley gorges. Your camera will never stop clicking at all the beauty surrounding you.

Visit the North Shore of Kauai and see the beautiful sights from the top of the towering cliffs with their greenery and flowing waterfalls tumbling to the valleys below. Stand on the cliffs and get a view of the Pacific Ocean and the endless waves rolling in to the shore.

Now go visit the island of Oahu that was once the home of King Kamehameha. Waikiki offers you the wonderful opportunity for great surfing on Waikiki Beach. You can take lessons here if you are just beginning the art of surfing or enjoy yourself with the big waves if you are an experienced surfer.

While you are at Waikiki Beach you may want to go to the Waikiki Aquarium and see the 3rd oldest aquarium in the U.S. Here there are over 500 marine species and more than 3,000 marine specimens for you to enjoy. They even have two endangered Hawaii Monk Seals for you to learn about while at the aquarium.

Of course you will visit Honolulu while you are on Oahu. This beautiful capital city is the epicenter of Hawaii with everything from the historic buildings to treasured monuments along with the opportunity to do some shopping and see the wide array of arts and culture.

Travel back in time with a visit to Iolani Palace where lavish parties and diplomatic affairs of the kingdom where held by King Kalakaua and his successor, Queen Liliuokalani. See the bedroom where the Queen was held captive after the overthrow of the monarchy.

Visit the other areas of the island, such as Windward Coast with its Koolau Mountains. Here you will see the opposite of the Waikiki Beach area. The rugged mountains, dramatic ocean views while watching the dolphins and penguins at the Sea Life Park.

Take a trip to Central Oahu and see the beautiful plantation areas. Visit Historic Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona with the memorial to those that died protecting our country from the Japanese invasion of WWII.

When you are taking the time to visit Molokai on your Hawaii vacation you will be in the world where there is nothing taller than a coconut tree. The tallest point on the island is the church steeple.

Are you planning a stop in Lanai while you are on your Hawaii vacation? This quite, restful island will give you a chance to watch the whales, dolphins or just swim or snorkel to relax.

A 60 ft. banyan tree is something you will want to see when you are visiting Maui. The tree and the mountain top of Haleakala offer an alternative to the beaches (which are great) of the other islands.

Come to the Big Island and see how it is still growing! The volcano keeps adding land mass to the island. With 11 different climate zones you can experience everything from the desert to the Rain Forest, from the black sand beaches to the snow capped mountains.

Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson knew that Virginia was a special place, a gem among the colonies. Our first and third presidents built estates here, and tourists flock to Mount Vernon, Montpelier and Monticello each year to explore the homes of these founding fathers. Virginia offers many other historic sites, as well as some great historic bed and breakfasts. Here are some great ideas to consider when planning your Virginia history tour.

After a day exploring Virginia’s historic sites, it seems only fitting to spend your nights at a historic Virginia inn. The Holladay House, located in the charming historic village of Orange, has rich past. During the civil war, soldiers clashed just outside the home on Main Street. The home has seen many owners, but is named for the Holladay family, who lived in the home for a century. Some of the antiques once belonged to the Holladay’s.

The guest rooms and suites at this Virginia bed and breakfast have been decorated individually. The Garden Room includes a private patio and double spa tub. The Ivy Suite has both a fireplace and double spa tub. Other rooms are equally lovely and all include amenities such as DVD players (the innkeepers have a movie library) and wireless internet. The innkeepers serve a gourmet breakfast, as well as offering homemade goodies, coffee and tea during the day.

The town of Orange is itself a unique historic attraction. The downtown area includes the Orange Commercial Historic District, which is listed in the National Register. There are many buildings that pre-date the Civil War, and several skirmishes took place within the town. St. Thomas Episcopal Church was used as hospital for wounded Confederate soldiers.

James Madison, fourth president of the United States, and his wife lived at Montpelier, just a few miles outside of town. The home is popular historic site. Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello is a short drive away in Charlottesville. James Monroe’s home is down the road from Jefferson’s, yet another presidential home to enjoy. The Battle of Wilderness occurred partially in Orange County, and parts of this Civil War battlefield are preserved at the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park.

Fredericksburg, which is less than an hour’s drive from Orange, has many interesting historic sites. In addition to the military park, the Kenmore Plantation and the United States National Slavery Museum hold important national significance. George Washington’s boyhood home, Ferry Farm, is another local historic site. Virginia’s multitude of historic sites is a must for history buffs, and don’t forget to book a stay at a Virginia inn.

by Todd Gibson

Switzerland is a fairy tale country. It is staggeringly beautiful and looks like something out of a book. If you are visiting, a trip to Lausanne is an absolute must. There you can be treated like royalty at the Beau Rivage Palace.

The palace is one of those epic locations in Europe with a long history. In the 1800s, it was the place to be seen for higher society. The ballroom was host to many a formal ball while the grounds provided plenty of romantic moments under the moonlight.

The resort is especially nice in the evening. The Palace is reflected in the waters surrounding it, creating an atmosphere that is like something from Cinderella or some other fairy tail. You can just sip champagne and take it all in.

If a spa is what you are after, you will not be disappointed when you book at room at Beau Rivage. Allow your body to be bathed, scrubbed, and rejuvenated as you lie there escaping reality for a day. This spa offers numerous treatments that will please any world traveler.

From body scrubs laced with fine flowers and exotic sugars to bathes that include some of the best oils in all the land, this is far more than an ordinary spa. From the moment you walk through the grand columns during arrival, you will note that this is one spot on earth where every little detail has been accounted for.

Beau Rivage may be a resort now, but it has not lost its Palace elegance. Silk is everywhere. The stairways are marble through and through as are the hallways and floors. The rooms are so plush, they should be illegal.

Wake up and walk out onto your private terrace. Sip a coffee and enjoy the peaceful view of the river and palatial grounds. I would hazard to guess it is physically impossible to be stressed out here. It is simply to beautiful and peaceful.

From palace to resort, Beau Rivage has evolved with the times. The rich still frequent it, but now you and I can as well. Spend just a day in the resort and you will experience where the say it is good to be king came from.

You might be wondering just how much a day in this decadence is going to cost? The answer is not as much as you assume. A room with a view is less than 500 Swiss Francs, but make sure to get reservations early.

When it comes to Big Island Hawaii hotels you will soon find that there are plenty to select from if you decide to vacation on this island in the future. You need to be aware however that the rates charged by these hotels varies and those that don’t have every amenity one would want will charge less than those that do. Plus where the hotel is located will affect the rates charged for the accommodation.

When it comes to booking a Big Island Hawaii hotel there are certain things you can do which will help to ensure that you keep the costs of your accommodation down. Below we provide a few tips to help you when it comes to getting the costs of your hotel accommodation in Hawaii reduced.

1. Find out if the hotels you are considering offer special rates or discounts to certain people such as the elderly, students, military personnel or those who travel frequently as this could save quite a bit on the accommodation.

2. If you are going to be booking your accommodation at a chain hotel, call the hotel direct if you can rather than their main chain number. This way you can often negotiate with them a far better deal on your accommodation.

3. A great way of getting some real good discounts for hotel accommodation is through online sites. Many of the hotels today will allow sites such as Hotwire, Expedia and Priceline a certain number of rooms that they can then sell at reduced rates and which will be less than if you went to the hotel direct.

4. If you only intend to spend a few days in a certain hotel then avoid booking your accommodation for the weekend, but instead stay in it during the week. Most hotels will increase the rates they charge on their rooms at weekends simply because they know that they are in demand more. However, as these hotels often find themselves empty during the week to help get people to stay at them they offer very good discounts and often you will get a bigger room for the same money you would pay for a smaller room at weekends.

5. If you intend to be eating out when on vacation rather than booking your accommodation with all meals included, instead go for the breakfast only option. This will end up saving you quite a considerable sum on the rate you pay for your room. Plus it offers you the opportunity to go out and try some of the local cuisine instead.

6. Finally you have to be aware of what is included in your accommodation costs and what isn’t. There are certain items like phone calls, snacks and drinks which will be an additional charge on top of your accommodation. Plus you may find that some of the Big Island Hawaii hotels also include into their costs taxes and service charges, which can add an additional amount of about 15% on to what you are already paying.

The historic village of Porthleven, Cornwall is the most southerly working harbour in mainland UK. The harbour exists today due to HMS Anson being wrecked on Loe Bar on December 29th 1807. Tobias Roberts, a hero that day, swam through stormy seas out to the Anson. A rope was tied around Tobias enabling him to create an escape route for those on board. Although he successfully reached the ship, over one hundred crew perished including the ship’s Captain Lydiard.

Appalled by the loss of live and to avoid such an incident in the future, along with locals alike, Tobias Roberts battled with the Admiralty to ensure there was a harbour of safe refuge. Being a determined man, Tobias got Porthleven Harbour constructed and then improved at a later date. Home to a much reduced number of fishermen, no commercial traffic of any size and a small number of pleasure craft, it took two acts of parliament before the harbour became what it is today.

However, the harbour still plays a major role attracting visitors from all over the world. Of course the village received the attention of the media when it was hit by a hurricane in December 1989. Television coverage was worldwide, showing the destructive storm with its monster waves spraying seaweed and shingle over 72 feet or 22 metres, the height of Porthleven’s clock tower, part of the Institute Buildings. Over the years village has attracted film and television programme makers helping to promote Porthleven’s natural unspoilt attraction.

In addition, brown tourist signs were introduced and publicised the village in a variety of ways including the Discover Porthleven leaflet which is now reproduced annually. Of course the village received media attention well beyond affordable advertising when it was hit by a hurricane in December 1989.

Porthleven has a number of quality self catering cottages, B&B and hotels situated around the harbour, above the beach and within the village. Many accommodate commanding views of the bay, the harbour or surrounding countryside. The village also has a small drop in caravan and camp site. Porthleven has three Inns, the oldest being the Ship Inn. In these you will discover good food, good ale and friendly locals. According to local legend and the BBC the Ship has a few resident ghosts.

There is a great variety of places to eat in Porthleven with restaurants such as the Blue Haze Restaurant, a recent asset to the village, quickly building a great reputation with both locals and visitors alike. Kota Restaurant and B&B is located on the harbour head and produces a well presented and varied menu. Both restaurants have chefs who have a great passion for cooking with locally sourced food. There are also two fish and chip shops and a Chinese takeaway.

England is wonderful and exciting country to visit for a vacation. There are places of interest to visit to suit all tastes. There is the historic city of York which dates back to roman times, Liverpool, and Torquay known as the English Riviera. One place to visit that should not be missed in the capital city of London.

London is an amazing place to visit, either just for a weekend or longer. You would be surprised at how many people living in England have never visited London, especially when it is usually top of most visitors lists when they first visit England.

It is hard to know where to start when mentioning what places are worth visiting in London. The Tower of London is a fascinating place to start a tour of London with it’s macabre history and dungeons. Besides being most famous as a place of execution the Tower of London has also been used as a palace. The most famous palace in London is Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of the monarch since Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne in 1837. Over 50,000 people visit Buckingham Palace every year and these are as guests to lunches, dinners parties and Royal Garden Parties. Buckingham Palace is generally open to the public when the Queen is not in residence. (twice a year)

The palace began its’ days as the city residence of the Duke of Buckingham. The Duke commissioned the building of the house in 1703. The house was later sold to King George III, who bought ‘Buckingham House’ for his wife, Queen Charlotte.

Since its construction, Buckingham House, as it was then known, has been enlarged considerably. The architects responsible for most of its additions were John Nash and Edward Blore. The largest of the additions to the house were the three wings formed around a central courtyard

The famous architect Aston Webb was responsible for the building of the principal facade of Buckingham Palace which he re-designed in 1912. Webb along with the sculptor Sir Thomas Brock were the winners of a competition to design a memorial to Queen Victoria. This memorial is still seen today.

The Queen has many other residences besides Buckingham Palace. Some of the residences are ‘official’ residences and there are some which are ‘private’. One other famous, official royal residence in London is St. Jame’s Palace and once upon a time was the primary London royal residence. A favourite private residence with the Queen is Balmoral in Scotland. The Queen enjoys a relaxing holiday at Balmoral every August, and was there when she heard the grave news of Diana, Princess of Wales’, sad and untimely passing.

Many travelers to California head north or south, but forget about all the fun to be found in the middle of the Golden State. Central California offers plenty of interesting attractions, from a historic castle to giant redwoods to miles of unforgettable seashore. There are lots of great Central California bed and breakfasts, as well. Here are some vacation ideas for travelers to this region.

For an eclectic mix of fun, Santa Cruz County is the place to be. The historic boardwalk includes a circa-1924 wooden rollercoaster and a carousel that has been in continuous operation since 1911. You’ll also find bowling, miniature golf, shopping and restaurants. The Mystery Spot, a gravitational anomaly where the laws of gravity and physics seem not to apply, is one of the area’s quirkiest attractions. Hiking trails leading through giant redwood forests and more than 80 miles of beaches are other places to enjoy.

The West Cliff Inn, located in a stunning restored Victorian, sits on a bluff above the ocean offering views of Cowell’s Beach and the nearby Santa Cruz Boardwalk. There are nine guestrooms, several with an ocean view. Some also have a jetted tub and all the rooms include a fireplace and king bed. Rooms are filled with amenities, such as luxurious linens, fine European bath products and fluffy towels, as well as televisions with DVD players. You can borrow a movie, book or board game from the innkeepers. A concierge service also is available, and the innkeepers are happy to help with restaurant and activity recommendations. In the mornings, a full breakfast buffet is served, and wine and hors d’oeuvres are set out in the afternoons.

As you head south from Santa Cruz, you’ll find plenty to see and do along Monterey Bay, which includes such notable spots as Carmel, Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove. Monterey itself is home to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Carmel, known as an artists’ community is famous for its many galleries, as well as its annual Bach festival. The event draws visitors from around the world. The 17-Mile-Drive from Pebble Beach to Pacific Grove is a sight not to be missed, showcasing the jagged coastline and cypress trees. Pacific Grove is home to several wonderful bed and breakfasts and has more Victorian houses per capita than any other U.S. city. Day trips from the area include visits to Hearst Castle. It’s a two-hour drive to the castle, located in the tiny hamlet of San Simeon, but as you must cross through spectacular Big Sur, it’s well worth the time.

The Green Gables Inn, located in Pacific Grove, is a highlight of any stay in the Monterey Bay area. This Central California bed and breakfast is literally across the street from the bay, and several guest rooms boast stunning ocean views. Every inch of this historic Queen Anne Victorian is special. The main common room features a fireplace flanked by beautiful stained glass. The carriage house rooms include king beds, fireplaces, whirlpool tubs and a partial ocean view. In the main house, there are a variety of unique rooms. One room is located in the home’s gable and includes a ladder that leads into the gable loft. The Chapel room is a bit like a cozy captain’s quarters about an old sailing ship. The dark wood beams and dotted Swiss windows in the window seat create a cozy ambiance. Other rooms are equally memorable, and several have a fireplace or whirlpool tub. There is a full breakfast every morning, and in the afternoons, wine and hors d’oeuvres are served.

The Gosby House is another memorable Pacific Grove bed and breakfast. The historic Victorian is painted a welcoming shade of yellow, and the interior is just as charming. Beautifully decorated rooms are a perfect catalyst for romance, and several have sitting areas with a fireplace. The Carriage House has two suites, each with a double spa tub, fireplace and balcony. This Monterey Peninsula bed and breakfast is just a few minutes from the bay in downtown Pacific Grove.

Llandudno is a great place to stay in North Wales and is the regions premier coastal resort. The town has the largest choice of hotels in North Wales and offers everything from large hotels to smaller boutique style hotels. Many guests come back year after year because of the quality of service and wonderful features of the town.

The majority of Llandudno hotels are located on the town’s Victorian promenade. The promenade is perfectly framed between the Great Orme at the north end and the Little Orme to the east. The promenade curves for over one and a half miles and, other than Bodafon Fields towards the Little Orme is lined almost entirely by hotels. These hotels tend to be the most expensive especially if you want a sea view which is well worth it.

You can find almost every type of hotel on the Llandudno’s promenade. There are a number of large hotels run by national chains such as The Imperial Hotel and The St George’s Hotel. These hotels have hundreds of rooms and many facilities such as swimming pools, saunas, and large restaurants.

Away from the larger hotels are many of the smaller privately owned hotels. These smaller hotels tend to be situated either towards the north end of the promenade and close to the pier or towards the Little Orme away from the main areas of the town. These smaller hotels often have a reputation for quality service that attracts a high number of repeat visitors. The St Tudno Hotel is one example of a smaller hotel being located opposite the pier entrance and has a long history of great service and an award winning restaurant.

One large hotel that most visitors see immediately is the imposing Grand Hotel which stands almost on the pier itself. The Grand Hotel enjoys terrific views of Llandudno’s Bay and promenade. A number of hotels are located on the North Parade to the rear of The Grand Hotel. These hotels tend to be less expensive than one’s located directly on the promenade but still afford wonderful views of the bay and promenade.

The Empire Hotel is one hotel worth mentioning that is not located on the promenade. The hotel is located at the top of Mostyn Street looking down Llandudno’s main shopping area and close to the Great Orme. The Empire Hotel has earned a reputation as one of Llandudno’s best hotels with modern bedrooms and facilities.

The Risboro Hotel is approximately 10 minutes walk from the town centre and promenade and is located in a more peaceful area of Llandudno. The Risboro Hotel has earned a reputation for quality and service and whilst not as large as some other hotels it offers an excellent choice for accommodation slightly away from the town centre.

Another location that offers peace and quiet is Llandudno’s West Shore which is home to a small number of hotels. The West Shore enjoys wonderful views across the Conwy estuary towards Snowdonia and Anglesey. Llandudno’s West Shore is an ideal location if you want to be close to the beach but away from the town centre. The West Shore is approximately 20 minutes walk from the town centre or can be reached by taxi or bus if you don’t want to take the car.

Two other hotels located close to Llandudno are the newly built Deganwy Quay Hotel and Bodysgallen Hall and Spa Hotel. The Deganwy Quay Hotel is located about two miles from Llandudno in the village of Deganwy and has immediately become one of the areas best hotels. The hotel is located on the exclusive Deganwy Marina and enjoys views of Conwy Castle and the Conwy estuary. The Bodysgallen Hall and Spa Hotel is a country house hotel located just of the A470 connecting road to Llandudno. Set in its own grounds the hotel enjoys panoramic views of the Snowdonia Mountains and Conwy Castle and is one of the finest country house hotels in the whole of Wales.

History of Rome is very famous. Rome is known as the Eternal City with its palaces, temples, tombs and churches. Rome has a legacy which very few cities in the world have and it is beyond the understanding of people. It is essential to come to the city to feel the beauty of Rome. There are a number of attractions in the Eternal City like the Foro Romano, well known Colloseum, the Termini Railway Station and not to forget the Vatican City.
